Alex Nersesian K6VHF is a US immigration success story.  Hailing from the Republic of Georgia after the fall of the former Soviet Union, Alex credits amateur radio with finding work, career,family,  and community in his new country.  Now successfully living the American dream,  K6VHF loves to chase DX on HF, VHF, and Microwave using FT-8, SSB, and CW and is an avid DXpeditioner.  In addition, Alex makes EME, microwave, and rover contacts all of the way up to 122 GHz.  K6VHF is my QSO Today.


​Overview

  • Alex Nersesian K6VHF began his ham radio journey at age 10 in Georgia, inspired by QSL cards from his uncle, and was mentored by David (4L6BOX) and Sergey (4L1FXR).
  • Received his first amateur radio license, 4L1F, in 1999 amid the post-Soviet collapse, while studying electrical engineering with a focus on aerospace.
  • Achieved significant VHF/UHF milestones in Georgia, including the first EME QSO on 2 meters and setting records for distances over 3,500 km to Italy.
  • Immigrated to the US through the green card lottery due to political instability, starting as an electronics technician at an audio/video shop for $10/hour.
  • Passed the technician exam and received the vanity call sign K6VHF in 2010, achieving DXCC in one weekend and upgrading to Extra class within three years.
  • Currently works as a Senior Electrophysics Scientist at Boeing, involved in aerospace projects since relocating to Arizona in 2015.
  • Operates a stealth antenna system in Arizona, successfully contacting 300 DXCC entities with portable antennas designed to remain inconspicuous to neighbors.
  • Built an innovative rover system using fiber optic communications on 12 bands and operates multiple ICOM transceivers, influencing the development of ICOM’s IC-9905.
