On board ISS 🛰 (International Space Station) 🛰-ISS was installed a new radio lover’s crossband retranslator IORS.

▪ Work mode: FM▪ Uplink frequency: 145.990 MHz with TON: 67 Hz [CTCSS]▪ Downlink frequency: 437.800 MHzThe #ARISS team is pleased to announce that the setting and installation of the first element of our next generation radio system is complete and radio operations with it are already underway. This first element, called InterOperable Radio System (IORS), was installed in the Module of the International Space Station Columbus.

#IORS replaces the Ericsson radio system and the package module, which were originally certified for space flights on July 26, 2000At 01:02 GMT on September 2, a crossband FM radio amateur retranslator was activated at the International Space Station on September 800, 437 MHz.The initial operation of the new radio system is in FM retranslator mode using input frequency of 145.990 MHz by tonne [CTCSS] of 67 Hz and output frequency of 437.800 MHz.IORS launched from Kennedy Space Center on March 6, 2020 on board the #SpaceX CRS-20. Supply Mission.

It consists of a special, cosmically modified JVC Kenwood D710GA receiver developed by ARISS special power supply and special connecting cables. The design, development, production, testing and launch of the first IORS was an incredible five-year engineering achievement achieved by the ARISS volunteer team for hardware. This will give new, exciting opportunities for radio operators, students and the general public. Options include a higher power radio, voice retranslator, digital package radio (APRS) options and a slow scanning system for Kenwood VC-H1 (SSTV) television.

Second IORS is currently undergoing a flight certificate and will be released later for installation in the Russian service unit. This second system allows for double, simultaneous operations (e.g. Voice retranslator and #APRS package), providing diverse opportunities for radio lovers. It will also provide reservation in orbit to ensure continuous operations in case of damage to IORS component.Next generation development efforts continue. Parts are supplied for IORS and a total of ten flight support systems, ground testing and astronaut training continue.

New things in the next generation radio system include an opportunity for L-Band uplink, which is currently under development, and a Raspberry-Pi flight, called ARISS-Pi, which is just starting the design and development phase. #ARISS-Pi promises autonomy of operations and improved #SSTV operations.ARISS – Celebrates 20 years of continuous radio-lover operations of ISS!🔛 More info here: https://www.ariss.org/🔺 For more interesting news, like the page LZ HAM Bulgaria
